Smt. Venkatalakshmi Lakshmanan is the founder of the Natyakala
center.
Natyakala was founded by Smt.Venkatalaksmi Lakshmanan in 1999. Mrs. Lakshmanan is the disciple of the
late Sudarkodi Padma Ramanathan .She performs according to the 'vazhuvur' style, participated in several performances
including the popular dance drama 'Choodi kodutha sudarkodi' on Andal which proved to be a tremendous success and was repeated
several times. She completed here 'arangetram' at the age of 12 under her guidance. After her demise she continued her dance
career giving several performances in major cities in India and learning under Natyavisaradha Kumari R.Padma, a student of
Padmashri Natya Chakravarthi, Late K.N Dhandayuthapani Pillai and late K.N. Pakkiriswamy Pillai. Mrs. Venkatalakshmi Lakshmanan
was also under the guidance of Smt. Krishnakumari Narendran, Smt. Saraswathy Sundaresan, and Smt. Swapnaa Sundari performing
various dance programs and ballets all over India and abroad.
Mrs. Venkatalakshmi Lakshmanan also had a privilege to work under late Mr. Challapathi, Mr. Surya Narayamurthy
and Ms. Chandralekha of Kalakshethra doing a production on famous Tamil epic dance dramas Manimekhalai, Arunagirinathar, Saint
Sundrar, Appar, Sambandar in India and European World tour including London, Canada & USA in 1995.
She is also a part of 'Arpana' which is a cultural and social center of elderly in Madras formed
by Bhama Natarajan. Her team of friends included various dancers and musicians come together have done many fund raising programs
involving in chorography, audio tape production and several programs in India at various temples and Saba's.
Mrs. Venkatalakshmi Lakshmanan is a regular performer at Natyanjali Festival in Chidambaram, Saral
vizha in Kutralam, Adi pooram utsavam, Srivilliputhur. She also participated in many dance dramas in front of Sri Satya Sai
Baba in Puttaparthi.
She has given Bharatnatyam recitals lasting for 3hrs solo under the auspices of Sankarabaranam Chennai,
at Mylapore fine arts, Music academy, and also for Doordarashan television.
Mrs. Venkatalakshmi Lakshmanan has received many awards, one of them like the prestigious
Kalaimagal award. She was one among the artists from different types of art forms in India who was chosen and honored
by Dr. Balamurli Krishna.
She also performed items like Mohini Attam, Kai Kottu Kali, Kathak, Garbha, Bhangra and other folk
items from tamilnadu like peacock, snake, doll, fisherman, tharangam, gipsi and kavadi.
She has also performed in Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Jacksonville, and other cities and
Canada after she joined her husband in U.S.A
